South Africa's budget airline 1Time Airlines will launch flights to Mombasa from March 5th this year. The twice weekly Johannesburg-Mombasa flights on Mondays and Fridays. Mombasa will be 1Time Airlines third international destination after Zanzibar and Livingstone.
The South African LCC will operate the route with mid-size, medium-range aircraft McDonnell Douglas MD-83, although it may be substituted by MD-82 or MD-87.
1Time is the first South African LCC to launch flights into Kenya; the flights will add a boost to Kenya's tourism industry which had taken a hit due to terrorist and kidnapping threats from Somalia. Mombasa is a high potential route and a tourist city that attracts over a million tourists every year. The airline is expected to chip into Kenya Airways' and South African Airways' market share. Over 33,000 South African tourists visited Kenya in 2010. Good news for Kenya's Tourism Industry.
